Aloha!  On Feb. 3, 2013, I had an amazing, transformational journey to the big island of Hawaii to experience the gift of giving and receiving this sacred art, which affects every aspect of the body through this powerful work.  I was able to share this experience with 40 other therapists from around the world on a beautiful retreat in Pahoa, HI.

What is Lomi Lomi?

Lomi Lomi means to knead or to soothe.  Lomi Lomi is much more than a massage.  It is an experience.  Many modalities focus on just the physical aspects of the body.  However, with Lomi Lomi, the practitioner focuses on the entire body as a whole and doesn’t view the person on the table as someone to be “fixed,”  but rather a person to be returned to harmony and balance.  With that, the emotional, spiritual and mental levels are affected as well.

The long, continuous complex runs on the body, combined with the loving touch of the practitioner, helps facilitate the release of repressed feelings and emotions, which are stored in the cells of our body.  Working both sides of the body simultaneously, creates techniques that the brain can't follow, which enables the mind to surrender and let go.

With Lomi Lomi, the most widely used tools are the forearms.  The incredible techniques and flow of this massage creates the feeling of ocean waves moving up and down throughout the body.  With traditional Lomi Lomi there is no body sheet, which allows the practitioner to glide underneath the body as well, which provides the ultimate full body experience.
